Swaziland's national HIV treatment program has not been evalueted since its inception in 2004. By the end of 2010, about 78, 919 patients had been initiated on antiretroviral therapy (ART). This study evaluates the clinical and immunological outcomes of HIV-1-infected adult patients who started ART in Swaziland between 2004 and 2010.

In The Strategy and Implementation Plan for Scaling Up Safe Male Circumcision for HIV Prevention in Swaziland, 2009–2013 (Ministry of Health, 2009) the Government of the Kingdom of Swaziland outlined plans for integrating and scaling up male circumcision (MC). MC is to be delivered widely as part of a broad range of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevention measures, as outlined in the National Strategic Framework for Response to HIV and AIDS, 2009–2014 (Ministry of Health, 2009). The MC Communications Strategy 2009–2013 is intended to support this initiative.

The HIV prevention policy provides direction and guidelines on the HIV prevention programme implementation and on the response management to an extensive range of stakeholders, which includes policymakers, managers, programmers and implementers, taking into consideration the risk factors to infection and the key drivers to the epidemic.
