Primary HIV/AIDS care: a practical guide for primary health care personnel in the clinical and supportive care of people with HIV/AIDS

2005
Author:
Clive Evian

This manual has attempted to provide primary health care peronnel with a user-friendly guide and approach to medical care of people with HIV/AIDS. Besides the purely medical assessment and care, it also addresses such issues as HIV testing, counseling, specific needs of women and children and health care workers, as well as management ofpain and of those who are terminaally ill. Current approaches and recommendations for the use of anti-retroviral therapy are highlighted in all relevant sections. The book also deals with the prevention of peri-natally acquired HIV and post-exposure prophylaxis (prevention). As tuberculosis and other sexually transmitted infections are so closely associated with HIV, these conditions have also been included.
